When there’s an ending, there’s a beginning.
I’ve always thought of Labor Day Weekend as the end of summer and the beginning of fall. Yesterday, I officiated my last wedding of summer 2014 with Britt and Eric. By the way, they each wrote their vows and waited for the “moment” to say them to one another. Then, they marked the moment by tying a knot at the end of a big rope and pulling the ends until the knots became one, followed by taking their first communion together as their friend, Savannah, sang a rendition of Leonard Cohen’s song, Hallelujah, which told their story.
A powerful life marker moment. Wow.
And, tomorrow, I end my summer gig at South Salem Nazarene Church. It’s been a wonderful experience. While I’m not sure what God has next for me as a pastor, I’m looking forward to a new beginning!
As I’ve been celebrating with my friends, I’m aware of my friends who are experiencing incredibly difficult circumstances. I’m praying for each of you, believing God is the God of more.
Even when the road in life appears to have come to a dead end, when there seems to be nothing more to do, when the days seem too hard to move forward, I can say with complete confidence . . . God is at work, preparing a new beginning. I pray you will remember an ending is the start of a new beginning.
It’s what the wise man of the ancient days said:
” . . . and I know God has made everything beautiful for its time. God has also placed in our minds a sense of eternity; we look back on the past and ponder over the future, yet we cannot understand the doings of God” (Ecclesiastes 3:11, The Voice).
God takes our endings and makes them into beautiful beginnings!
And, before I end this post with pictures: I know I’ve said it before, you are invited to my last Sunday at South Salem Nazarene:
Sunday, August 31 at 10:45 AM
South Salem Nazarene Church 1661 Boone Rd SE Salem, OR 97306
(Go south on Commercial and turn left before it intersects on Kuebler at Arby’s on Boone Road. From I5 south, take the Kuebler exit, turn right and turn right on Stroh (third right after exit), left on Boone Rd.)
Here’s to endings and beginnings!
Britt ended her single days and began her first day as the MRS.!
Britt’s sister, Courtney, presented an amazing toast by doing a “rap.” If, someone videoed her–it most likely has gone viral. It was a great tribute to their relationship as sisters as she told the story of endings and beginnings.
Two incredible women.
The day ended well. Today is the beginning of great days ahead.
Today Is One Of Those Days, A Story of Firsts and Love, Enough . . . Helping Others To Have Enough, Before and After, Why, Words, Defining, Challenging, Life-Changing Words, There’s More To the Story, Praying for you, Leaving the Impossible Behind, Praying hands . . . make me strong.
