Almost everything in our life changed. It was one reason we had to move. The most simple things, the routine of life, became challenging and really hard. Most people around us had no idea how hard life was for us. I had been counseled not to mention much as it would distract from what really matters in life.
I’ve never wanted or want my life to be a negative message. I do think our words give way to a way of thinking and behaving. As it’s often said, “There’s power in our words.”
But. I don’t think we are created to live this life alone. Everyone needs someone to understand and walk alongside with the belief there’s more to come, that the hard of life is not a dead end but will lead to a new beginning. There’s power in sharing life with others.
I’m a firm believer, that when we are honest we are poised for healing. And. I believe healing begins when we are heard; there’s something powerful when our hard is not dismissed but heard. Those who heard and helped us believed our mountain would move.
I needed people to believe what remained deep within me: God is ridiculously amazing. God makes all things possible when it makes no sense.
Their belief has been powerful in our healing. In the end, I think it encourages all of us, those on either side of the hard, to see God break through. It’s the picture of what a community of faith is all about.
This is what a faith community means to me: We share one another’s story–all of our combined stories, the good, the hard, the messy–and we share the breaking through of God, the healing, and the process of becoming whole, living the best life possible–all of it becomes our story, ultimately pointing to how ridiculously amazing God is in all of it.
In the end, the story of a community of faith is about being honest, heard, and ultimately healed–a part of the dream God has given for The Red Door Community Church. It matters–Kerrie
